General questions
What does 4D SignWorx do?
We’re a Houston custom sign company that designs, engineers, fabricates, and installs commercial signage in-house: channel letters, monuments, pylons, LED and electric signs, wall and interior signage, and ADA/wayfinding, plus permitting and ongoing service.
Do you really do everything in-house?
Yes. Design, engineering, fabrication, and paint happen on our own Houston floor, and our own crews install. That single-source model is why our schedules hold and our quality stays consistent.
What areas do you serve?
Greater Houston and its suburbs (Katy, Spring, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Pearland) for direct install, plus the Texas Triangle for multi-site programs.
Can you repair or update a sign you didn't build?
Usually, yes. We service illuminated signs, replace faces, update tenant panels, and retrofit older signs to LED across Houston.
Do you work with property managers and developers?
Yes. Coordinated, multi-building sign programs are a core strength, especially for shopping centers and industrial parks.

How much does a custom sign cost?

Why do sign quotes vary so much?
Because signs are custom. Size, illumination type, materials, structural engineering, permitting, and installation complexity all move the price. A precise quote requires knowing your sign and site.
Is a quote free?
Yes, consultation and quotes are free, with no obligation. We’ll review your project and give you an itemized price.
Are illuminated signs expensive to run?
Not with modern LED. It draws a fraction of the power of neon or fluorescent lighting and lasts for years, so operating cost is usually minor next to the visibility gained.
Permits & code
Do I need a permit for my sign?
Most exterior commercial signs in the Houston area require a permit, and illuminated signs require an electrical permit. Requirements vary by jurisdiction. We handle the full permit package for you; see the Houston sign permit guide.
Do you handle the permits, or do I?
We do. We prepare the drawings each reviewer wants, submit, and manage the process through final inspection. It’s part of every project.
What are deed restrictions and how do they affect signs?
Houston relies heavily on deed restrictions and landlord/HOA sign criteria instead of citywide zoning. These can limit sign size, height, type, and lighting, sometimes more strictly than the city. We check them before we design.
Are your electrical signs UL-listed?
Yes. Illuminated signs are UL-listed, and we’re a licensed, bonded Texas electrical sign contractor, so signs pass inspection.
Timeline & process
How long does a sign take?
Storefront channel letters often run a few weeks; engineered pylons and masonry monuments run several weeks to a couple of months. Permitting is usually the biggest variable, and we manage it.
What are the steps in a sign project?
Survey and design, engineer-sealed drawings and permits, in-house fabrication, and installation, then service afterward. See our turnkey process for detail.
Will I see a design before you build it?
Yes. We provide scaled renderings, usually on a photo of your building, so you approve exactly what will be installed before anything is fabricated.
Types & materials
What type of sign do I need?
It depends on visibility, illumination, and code: road-facing pylons or monuments for distance, channel letters for storefronts, interior and ADA signage inside. Tell us your goal and site and we’ll recommend the right sign or combination.
What is a channel letter sign?
Individually fabricated three-dimensional letters mounted to a building, usually illuminated. See channel letter signs.
What materials are commercial signs made from?
Typically aluminum and steel structures, acrylic and aluminum faces, masonry (brick/stone) for monuments, and UL-listed LED lighting, all chosen and finished for Houston’s weather.
Maintenance & service
Do you offer sign maintenance?
Yes, on-call repair and scheduled maintenance for illuminated and non-illuminated signs, including LED and lighting repair, face and panel updates, and refacing.
Can you convert my old neon sign to LED?
Usually, yes. An LED retrofit cuts energy use and maintenance while keeping the sign’s look. It’s one of the most common upgrades we do.
How long do LED signs last?
Commercial-grade LED modules are rated for many years of service; we spec and warranty accordingly.
